Sir Paul Nurse received his Knighthood in 1999 for Services to Cell Biology and
Cancer research. He received the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 2001,
also the Royal Society of Medicine Gold Medal (U.K.) in 2003.
He was born on 25th. January 1949 and attended Harrow County School from 1960 to
1966. He graduated from the University of Birmingham B.Sc. (1st Class Hons.) in
Biological Science 1967 to 1970, and was awarded a Doctorate in Cell Biology/ Biochemistry
from the University of East Anglia 1973.
Sir Paul is married with two children. He was awarded the Legion d’Honneur France
in 2002. Currently Sir Paul is President and Head of the Laboratory of Yeast Genetics
and Cell Biology at the Rockerfeller University, New York, U.S.A. He has been elected
President of the Royal Society, London for 2010 to 2015.
